make you feel my love

it was at the rooftop bar - somewhere (she doesn't want to reveal the place).
she said it was a very beautiful moment.
had a drink with her man, cloudy...., weather forecast was not promising.
she said only two of them at the rooftop bar.
then suddenly a slow pouring of tropical rain went down when then the bar-girl played this song.
sun was about completely set, the orange colour slightly remained, mixed with the grey-ish colour of the faded thunderstorm.

she said, "we starred each other, words would not be enough to express the feel. Perfect moment...., perfect drink...., perfect song....., perfect place. i want to preserve the moment forever. be with him as much as i can."

i know she is in love. therefore, i dedicated this post for you my dearest friend.

"make you feel my love" is a song originally written and performed by bob dylan, included in his thirteenth studio album time out of mind (1997).
It is a bluesy rock song, produced by daniel lanois, which describes the regret one may feel for not being with someone they love.
adele included a piano-driven cover version of the song in her debut studio album 19 (2008) and released it as the fifth single from the album.
adele’s version was produced by jim abbiss and performed well commercially.
below i gave both versions.

lyric:
when the rain is blowing in your face

and the whole world is on your case

i could offer you a warm embrace

to make you feel my love

when the evening shadows and the stars appear

and there is no one there to dry your tears

i could hold you for a million years

to make you feel my love

i know you haven't made your mind up yet

but I would never do you wrong

i've known it from the moment that we met

no doubt in my mind were you belong
i'd go hungry, I'd go black and blue

i'd go crawling down the avenue

no, there's nothing that I wouldn't do

to make you feel my love
the storms are raging on the rolling sea

and on the highway of regret

the winds of change are blowing wild and free

you ain't seen nothing like me yet
i could make you happy, make your dreams come true

nothing that I wouldn't do

go to the ends of the Earth for you

to make you feel my love
to make you feel my love

sicilienne - gabriel faure

i like gabriel faure since beginning. mostly the compositions i like is written in minor keys.
pie jesu, sicilienne, etc.

i personally, do not like watching movies/drama series. accidentally, one day i turn of the tv channel, and found a japanese musical drama titled: 'nodame cantabile'. i love the music. then, again accidentally when i need short movies for training, i visited http://www.viki.com, and found the korean version of nodame cantabile, which titled 'tomorrow cantabile'. i started following the series because of the music.

in one of the episode, the story focusing on a talented cellist who has tendon problem on his left hand, and he chose sicilienne as his last piece to perform.

sicilienne op.78, a composition of gabriel faure. actually it is part of incidental music (incidental music, can be translated as a 'background music') for molière's le bourgeois gentilhomme, the piece was never used for it. it was used as a solo for cello (or violin) with piano accompaniment. first published in 1898, it was dedicated to the British cellist william henry squire (1871-1963).

being just composed as a 'background music', this piece becoming a very popular classical music. many arrangements then came up for different instrument. solo guitar, solo piano, flute + piano, harp + flute, etc.

i attached herewith, a score for solo guitar:

below is a youtube clip, of the original version: cello + piano.

dream a little dream of me

if you are a piano lover, or even a pianist. perhaps you have heard about le ru ma (yiruma), a young korean pianist and composer (born: february 15, 1978). graduated from king's college london. perhaps one of his most famous piece is 'river flows in you' which inspired by samuel vallee (a french pianist and composer).

there are some of my yiruma's favourite. dream a little dream of me is one of them. the song itself was a song from 1931. the music was done by fabian andre and wilbur swachndt. lyrics was written by gus kahn. first recording, known was done in 1931.

besides, michael bubble version, i like robbie williams feat. lily allen version. this song is light, and easy to remember.

enjoy!

stars shining bright above you, night breezes seem to whisper, " i love you".
birds singing in the sycamore tree, "dream a little dream of me".
say "nighty-night" and kiss me. just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me.
while I'm alone and blue as can be, dream a little dream of me.

stars fading, but i linger on, dear.
still craving your kiss, I'm longing to linger till dawn, dear.
just saying this: Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you.
sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you.
but in your dreams whatever they be, dream a little dream of me.

stars fading, but i linger on, dear.
still craving your kiss, i'm longing to linger till dawn, dear.
just saying this: sweet dreams till sunbeams find you.
sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you.
but in your dreams whatever they be, dream a little dream of me.

take five

when i was a kid, i was amazed listening to this lively tunes. besides classical repertoires, jazz always captivate me. i think i have written in my previous post, my dad brought a lot of influence to my music appetite. he played many of world records during my kids time. so rich for a kid.

i was so happy when for the first time, i can play 'take five'. i felt like finding treasure when i found the piano score. i still remember it was during my 1st grade of middle school. it was a special fun for me when i tried to make records on my simple yamaha keyboard of take five.

the song is a jazz repertoire composed by Paul Desmond and recorded by The Dave Brubeck Quartet on 1959, it is part of The Dave Brubeck Quartet's album Time Out. many decades now, it is still a masterpiece of jazz collections. originally written in the E-flat minor key. The piano music score i attached herewith is also in E-flat minor.

blame it on my youth

trying to find information the story behind this beautiful song 'blame it on my youth', but i could not find any, except it was composed by Oscar Levant.
Edward Heyman wrote the lyrics, and it was recorded back to 4th April 1956.
The music itself was arranged by Nelson Riddle.
there are many version of this song records. from Carmen Mc Rae, Nat King Cole, to Matt Belsante, and Emilie Claire-Barlow you name it. but i like best both last versions.

Matt Belsante, i found the record incidentally. i was do a window shopping at one of cute japanese stuff store. i recalled this store always playing beautiful jazzy tunes, they play it pretty loud without disturbing the ambience. badly craving to know who is the singer of 'blame it on my youth', i used shazam (do you know this apps? it can sample any songs and then find the information of title, singer, where you can get it easily. two thumbs up apps!)

other version i like is sung by Emilie Claire-Barlow, which actually part of best audiophile voices V album. vocal + electric guitar accompaniment, blowing my mind to the air.

herewith i attached the youtube file of Emilie's blame it on my youth.

If I expected love when first we kissed
Blame it on my youth
If only just for you, I did exist
Blame it on my youth
I believed in everything
Like a child at three
You meant more than everything
All the world to me

If you were on my mind all night and day
Blame it on my youth
If I forgot to eat and sleep and pray
Blame it on my youth
If I cried a little bit
When first, I learned the truth
Don't blame it on my heart
Blame it on my youth

If you were on my mind all night and day
Blame it on my youth
If I forgot to eat and sleep and pray
Blame it on my youth
If I cried a little bit
When first, I learned the truth
Don't blame it on my heart
Blame it on my youth

somewhere out there

the lyrics of "Somewhere Out There" convey the love felt by two people separated by vast distances, but cheered by the belief that their love will eventually reunite them to be with each other once again. In the original theatrical production, the fictional characters singing "Somewhere Out There", Fievel and Tanya Mousekewitz, are brother and sister, and the love they share is described as general. however, in the more popular single version of the song, the love is described as more romantic.

this song was a potential Top 40 hit, and popularised by Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram. originally written by James Horner, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.

listening to this song, gave me courage to sail through the difficult time of living alone. Facing all most possible unhappy situation. he said, survival is the most important thing that I have to learn. And I am learning it now, at this moment and until when in the future I do not know. perhaps it is going to be a lifelong learning. knowing he is there supporting me from vast distance, put me in tears and smiles at the same time.

Somewhere out there
Beneath the pale moonlight
Someone's thinking of me
And loving me tonight

Somewhere out there
Someone's saying a prayer
That we'll find one another
In that big somewhere out there

And even though I know how very far apart we are
It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star
And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby
It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky

Somewhere out there
If love can see us through
Then we'll be together
Somewhere out there
Out where dreams come true

finally she surrendered

18 September 2014 - 06.25 West Indonesian Time

i received a phone call from my brother.
the phone that i knew i will receive one day, at an unpredictable time.
"mom passed away." she finally surrendered.

three weeks before she fulfilled her final call, I visited her at the hospital.
she had been in the high care unit for nearly 2 weeks. never out from the hospital since the first time she rushed in. totally, one month and 6 days.
she had a tremendous flank bleeding.

that day i visited her, we had a very good talk. heart to heart. religious music that i played close to her ears very gentle accompanied her story. She said she was tired, and wish the final call will come soon. she was in tears, then she smiled. she hold my hand tightly, and I do not want to release her hand either. while i still can physically touch her.

i only can spend 3 days there, and have to go back to where I am now.
her condition going up and down, expanding the roller coaster mood in my mind. a hope still be lighted deep inside.

the day she passed away, i went to the airport trying to get flight that can bring me back home. still in that kind situation, emotion should be suppressed into the lower limit, facing un-friendly ground handling of a famous (NON BUDGET) carrier.

back to my hometown, approaching the funeral house, my feeling was really played. tears uncontrolled, knowing that very soon I will face the reality.

she was laid in her coffin. looks as she was sleeping. the requiem held. people gathered. she is a popular old lady. many friends. i was there but not really there. my mind wandering around. Jumping from one memory to another.

the last song that I wanted to transfer to her is the below song: lagu untuk mama (song for mom). unfortunately, it was unable to transfer it on the day she started losing her consciousness, 2 days before her forever departure.

i wrote this note to remember my mom, and send her the song that i would like her to hear.

good bye mom. i miss you.

the happy madness

today, the calendar has shown the 21st day of october. 10 days to go to the end. the smell of the rainy season has already wafted in the air... somehow i can scent it. the tiny white flowers at my back yard started to blossom again, several new petals showing up too.

yesterday, i had a wonderful time with a friend, exploring many songs together. jazz tunes.... from old indonesian collection to western songs, jumped into some classic repertoires... back again to popular tunes..., a cup of coffee, balinese cakes, chit-chat, laughing.....in between..... a happy madness ... i would say ... (thank you sis).

when i said a happy madness.. my mind driven back to a song titled 'this happy madness' composed by antonio carlos jobim. the lyric was written by frank sinatra.

that song was re-recorded by stacey kent , in her new album  changing lights , which has just been released in the 16th of September 2013.

look at the following youtube record of the song:

lyric:

What should I call this happy madness that I feel inside of me
Some kind of wild October gladness that I never thought I'd see
What has become of all my sadness all my endless lonely sighs
Where are my sorrows now

What happened to the frown and is that self contented clown
Standing grinning in the mirror really me
I'd like to run through Central Park carve your initials in the bark
of every tree I pass for every one to see

I feel that I've gone back to childhood and I'm skipping through the wild wood
So excited that I don't know what to do
What do I care if I'm a juvenile I smile my secret little smile
Because I know the change in me is you

What should I call this happy madness all this unexpected joy
That turned the world into a baby's bouncing toy
The god's are laughing far above One of them gave a little shove
And I fell gaily gladly madly into love

thank you my warrior....
what should i call this happy madness that i feel inside of me
some kind of wild october gladness that I never thought I'd see
what has become of all my sadness all my endless lonely sighs
where are my sorrows now

because i know the change in me is you......

wait for me - aspetammi

several months ago i was introduced to the music of pink martini, a new york based group of music. they played, composed various kind of music into a very nice blended new atmosphere rich tunes for me, which is not overdo .... it is just nice! perfect nice....!

thomas f. lauderdale is the leader of the band, china forbes is their wonderful lady singer. one of my favorite tune is aspetammi (wait for me).

http://youtu.be/ld3AZyGWEgk

i was just back from a trip from a country where people wouldn't think i will come to visit. but finally i did. out of expectations, i could not explore much. my best friend who happened staying there for a 2 years period of 'giving back' service, was very sick. dengue..... the day i arrived was the first day of the bad fever started, followed by a painful headache....

everything happens for a reason....., i meant to be there, at the right time, at the right place ... even for the occasion that no one would like to be in. i meant to be here, to write a note again for my blog... sharing beautiful music and short story a chapter of my life.

one day, i will be back to that country.... i will walk along the beach, i will explore the surroundings, i will observe the people - many of them still living in poverties. lack of education, the government still struggling in finding the right formula to run the country... they are growing, they are developing, a process that will never end until the day when the world stop spinning....

on the aircraft that brought us out of the country, i looked at my friend face who tried to hold the pain, then i looked far away outside the window of the plane which start speeding to take off.....

aspetammi...., wait for me...., one day i come back to you....

bridge over troubled water

life is so unfriendly lately, but who cares..... this is just a station of transit.
live the life - i only have - the only chance nicely.., get the best out of everything.
i know in many cases i am not that optimistic..., but i am learning to be stronger and stronger everyday.

i will always remember friends in difficulties, friends who forget me in my difficulties, and friends who created difficulties for me.

emphasizing friends in difficulties, i found (not many) who truly like "bridge over troubled water", a legendary song by simon and garfunkel , released as a single in 26th january 1970, and in just a month and 2 days it sat at number one billboard 100 chart for six weeks. the single was sold around 6 million copies around the world.

early morning, 4 sept 2012. i was alone and decided to take some photographs of a river which i like very much. wanted to try my new kenko kb-67nd8 67mm standard coated neutral density filter 8X.

i like the result pretty much, but need more time to explore on using it. it was a working day, and i was not having enough time to 'play with'. will do again shortly, can be at the same river different spot, or totally different object.

see you, and be always optimistic, this world is just a station of transit, while we are here, harness that!

how can i leave you again?

since i was a little girl, i have already been a big fan of john denver. my late dad is a country music lover, but he also listened to many music genres which brought me to a universal music listener.

my favorite song of john denver music are how can i leave you again, shanghai breeze, and sunshine on my shoulder.

amongst those 3 songs, i like best how can i leave you again

i was only 9 or 10 years old, when my dad played the record for the first time and then the movie of john denver sung this song.

until now, it is so difficult to hold my tears when listening to this song. it is not only the memories about my dad, but also caused by the song was sung beautifully and the lyric ...oooh it is strongly influenced me... especially in the time when i am in vague if the path i am taking is the correct one...

question the course that i follow
i am doubtful deep in despair
my heart is filled with impossible notions
can it be you no longer care?

but i have YOU and MOTHER MARY. on your hand i surrender my life. i should not be in doubt...., i should be thankful..., i should follow the path available in front of me and trust the compass shown by YOU...

HOW CAN I LEAVE YOU AGAIN?

playing with photoshop - fairy tales

i was having a chit chat with a photographer friend about how expensive a good filter is. we were talking about the silky effect on water photography, we saw many pictures of silky water sea, waterfalls etc, and were amazed by the mystical effect of it. then at the end, i teased him that he can get the silky effect by using adobe photoshop rather than buy those expensive filters. he laughed and laughed....

then, i was triggered to play creating water effect with adobe photoshop. later on, my imagination going infinity and below is the result:

since i was a kid, i always like fairy tales stories.  fairy tales of hans christian andersen is one of my favorite besides grimm's. i watched most of barbie fairy stories, and i like best
barbie as rapunzel

enjoy.

in remembrance - dad

10 years ago, was a very shocking day for my family especially myself.
my dad passed away, being suffered from a serious tumor near his stem brain nothing much we could do, only pray, beside he was not young anymore.
my eldest sister is a doctor, she knew exactly what was going to be happened to our dad and we were forced to count the day until the final count down.
losing someone that you love and admire would not be easy. i am still carrying the uncomfortable feeling when hearing ambulance siren or seeing its lamp flashing at night.
i still remember every single moment of the day when we finally lose our dad.
i was alone living in this small island, all my sisters and brothers were leaving in different cities in a different island.

my dad is a music lover. from him i learned various type of music since my childhood time, those experience brought me up to also like different type of music. from mainstream jazz, classical, traditional music from various country such as japanese enka.

in an occasion like today, i usually went to the beach where his ash were buried (in the sea) early in the morning, saying prayers and 'talk' to him.

this is the view from the place I stood still early morning, sending roses and prayers for my dad. recall all memories from every stage of my life when he was still with me.

dad is a humble man, with a very strong determination, taught us the value of sincerity, honesty and generosity which faded now from the modern society.

i still want to hold that value until the time i will also go. the value that will always put me in a peaceful mind, as i do not need to be a 'fake' me.

when the corpse of my dad was still at home, the song that i played to ease my mind is 'it never entered my mind' sung by  stacey kent from her album in love again - the music of richard rodgers.

but when i knew dance with my father again by luther vandross, my heart was melted and could not hold my tears. until now, i always cry when listening to this song. below is the link to a youtube video of the stunning song.

Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around 'til I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved
If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
How I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again
When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way, I would run from her to him
He'd make me laugh just to comfort me
Then finally make me do just what my mama said
Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me
If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
'Cause I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again
Sometimes I'd listen outside her door
And I'd hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me
I know I'm praying for much too much
But could you send back the only man she loved
I know you don't do it usually
But dear Lord she's dying
To dance with my father again
Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream

bogoshipda 보고싶다

this song haunted me like a ghost for more than a year (sung beautifully by kim bum soo )
i always sob when listening ... even only to the introduction.
i think this is a kind of song that has a soul in it.
first time i listen to the song i did not even understand any single words of the lyrics, but somehow i can feel the pain.

then..., i found the lyric in korean and english, and it is very true.

No matter how long I wait, I just can't leave,
Like a fool,
Crying, by your side.

How can I not know,
That all you can give me is pain,
But I'll still continue to wait,
Even when you tell me to go.

I miss you, I miss you,
So much that I even hate this side of me,
I want to cry,
I am on my knees,
If only things didn't happen the way it did.

The memories of me being madly in love with you,
I search for you in those memories, but,
I can no longer hold on to you,
Using love as my excuse,
Although I shouldn't be this way,
But I miss you so much I feel I'm dying.

I miss you, I miss you,
So much that I even hate this side of me,
I want to believe, that this is the right path,
That all I can do for you is to leave.

The memories of me being madly in love with you,
I search for you in those memories, but,
I can no longer hold on to you,
Using love as my excuse,
Although I shouldn't be this way,
But I miss you so much I feel I'm dying.

I want to forget so much it feels like dying.

today, i wrote this post to comfort my own feeling. feel so sad that finally a best friend will have a new assignment in a place which quiet far away from the place i stayed.

i also found wise words from my friend's post, originally by richard bach which written like this:
do not be dismayed by goodbyes. a farewell is necessary before you can meet again. and meeting again, after moment and lifetimes, is certain for those who are in friends.

my prayers are following you wherever you go. wish you luck. your place is not there actually... am praying for your original wish to be comes true (we both know what it is) but let HIM do his part to knit the best future for you.

take care.... bo go ship da
